About Boisebulldogs
We began breeding bulldogs 19 years ago, and are dedicated to maintaining the breed standards of this unique and wonderful dog. We are a small family ran kennel, and do not run a 'puppy mill' nor are we backyard breeders trying this out for the first time or just for fun. We have spent lots of hours gaining knowledge and education to properly breed English bulldogs and have established healthy, genetically tested breeding lines without our dogs being inbred, which is your best bet for finding a healthy, long living furry companion. The key tenets in our breeding program are to develop optimal health, wonderful temperaments, and maintain the breed standards of the Bulldog held by the American Kennel Club (AKC). With these goals in place in our breeding program, we feel we have been able to offer our puppy parents a healthy companion that still looks like a bulldog and has that wonderful laid back bulldog personality.
Puppies grow up to resemble their parents, and especially their grandparents. We strive to maintain the AKC bulldog standards, with deep chests, low slung bodies, wide shoulders, and heavy wrinkles. So, what makes an amazing puppy? Amazing parents, grandparents, and ancestors in your puppy's genetic line. All our matings are chosen carefully to bring together qualities that will make a healthy, fantastic bulldog and continue the physical and personality attributes that make the English Bulldog one of the most
beloved of all canines.
beloved of all canines.
We are located in Boise, Idaho. Our friends and neighbors look forward to our puppy litters and the opportunities to visit with these chubby balls of fur and fun. Our puppies were raised along side our children, and now they are entertained by our grandchildren, with lots of love and attention. Our puppies are raised right inside our home, with plenty of people interaction, love and attention all day long. Raising puppies in a family setting is what makes our puppies transition perfectly from our home to yours. They see people all day every day and are properly socialized to be ready to feel right at home with you! When weather and puppy age permits, the pups are taken outside frequently for romps in our yard and play time. All of our pups are well socialized to people, other dogs, and cats. We love to see our puppies go to good loving homes where they will become part of a family.
If you live near the Boise Treasure Valley area, you are welcome to join us at our meet and greet open puppy day, which is on the 2nd Saturday each month from 9am-12noon, weather permitting. Please contact us for location. Due to our very busy lives, we are not able to accommodate individual visits outside this window, but we can do live video calls to introduce you to our puppies and adults.

Is an English bulldog puppy your soulmate?
-- or, that is, is the English bulldog the one dog that’s absolutely perfect for you in every way?
But how can you know which dog is right for you? Narrowing down your options to a single breed can even feel overwhelming. After all, it’s not like there’s a dog breed dating app with useful bios that you can read through and swipe up or down on. (there isn’t one of those, is there??)
At least, I hope you’d read the bios. You can’t just be swiping up or down based on pictures alone– wait, what?! Really? Are you kidding me?!
Okay, okay, to be fair, it is understandable. When I see pictures like this I also immediately want to swipe up.
But, cuteness aside, how do you know if a Bulldog is right for you?
Well, don’t worry; you won’t have to fret and wonder and gaze longingly at their photos wondering if you’re a match any longer– here are four factors to consider when wondering if adding an English bulldog puppy is right for you.

Best family environments for English Bulldogs
Just as important as figuring out if an English Bulldog puppy is right for you is figuring out if an English Bulldog puppy is right for your family.
If you have kids, English Bulldogs are generally easy-going and patient with children; the two often become the best of friends!
English Bulldogs often match whatever energy levels their owners provide, whether that’s more relaxed or more energetic. So if you have a household of energetic little boys, your English bulldog may try to match that energy of their pack! If your family is more chill and laid back, your English bulldog will most likely follow suit. At Boise Bulldogs, we help personality match our bulldog puppies to the perspective owners so you know you are getting a puppy that will jive with the vibe in your home and truly become your family’s best friend. In the end, if you have a lot of love to give and want a laid-back buddy who likes to cuddle and entertain you with silly antics, you and a Bulldog puppy could be a match made in heaven!
If, however, you’re looking for a dog to train for a marathon with, or one that requires you to throw a ball back and forth until your arms turn to jello, you might want to check out this breed called, I don’t know if you’ve heard of them, Golden Retrievers.

How much time you’re home with your English Bulldog
English Bulldogs, like many of us, love to take naps. Since they’re only a moderately-active breed, they’re usually able to handle owners being gone for several hours a day (and they may even appreciate the chance to take long, uninterrupted snoozes).
English Bulldogs are generally pretty chill, so if you’re kind of busy but still want a buddy to watch Netflix with, an English Bulldog would be great for you!
They require more attention when they’re puppies, of course, but gain greater independence as they get older and feel more familiar in their environment.
Like any pet, English Bulldogs do need to be able to have access to a bathroom, and should not be left outside unattended for any extended time.
Similarly, if you are leaving your English Bulldog home alone for a few hours, you’ll want to properly crate train them so they don’t have an accident inside the house or chew up your favorite pair of shoes. (They love leather…they have expensive tastes!)

Grooming considerations for English Bulldogs
Although utterly adorable, English Bulldogs are not very high maintenance when it comes to grooming. English Bulldogs have relatively short coats, so they don’t often need to be brushed or taken to the groomers for a trim. A regular deshedding routine is all they need, and mostly at the changing of seasons when any dog would be having an adjustment to their coats.
Some English Bulldogs might have a couple of skin wrinkles or folds that need to be wiped out with a disinfectant about once or twice a week, but that depends on your individual dog.
Other than that, English Bulldogs really just need baths every one to six weeks and to have their nails trimmed every three to four weeks. And that is it!

Activity levels of English Bulldogs
Now, if there was a little icon on the metaphorical dog breed dating profile indicating how often you hit the gym, English bulldogs would be a casual “once in a while.”
Let’s be real- with that many wrinkles and such short legs they’re not exactly built for long distance running and jumping hurdles.
In general, English Bulldogs only need a moderate amount of exercise. A short 10-30 minute walk once a day, or even just a couple times a week, is usually enough to help keep them fit and healthy.
English Bulldogs tend to have a lot more energy and desire to be active when they’re younger (relatable), so puppies tend to be the most rambunctious (shocker, I know). But, even with the added energy of a youthful puppy, English bulldogs are generally not overly energetic even as puppies. We like to say they play hard (for about 20-30 minutes…) and then they sleep hard (for an hour or more…).

And English Bulldogs, just like people, vary in their energy levels depending on the dog’s personality. We’ve had English bulldogs who would run back and forth playing fetch enthusiastically– well, for about twenty minutes. Then they’ll often signal they’re done by just dramatically throwing themselves onto the grass for a nap to recover.
On the other hand, we’ve also had other English Bulldogs who would get about twenty steps into a walk and then plop down on the cement and refuse to walk anymore.
So, overall, English Bulldogs are a good choice for you if you are moderately active and NOT looking for a dog to be your outdoor adventure buddy for long walks, hikes, bike rides, or retrieving toys thrown into bodies of water. (And if you’re occasionally willing to carry home a bulldog who decided they weren’t going to move another paw during your short walk.)

Best climates for English Bulldogs
Because English Bulldogs have such short noses and all those wrinkles and extra skin, they can overheat easily as well as become very cold easily. . If you live in a very hot climate and want your dog to join you on lots of outdoor adventures in unholy temperatures (anything above 80 degrees fahrenheit), you’ll want to keep i n mind your English bulldog will not be able to join you without possibly overheating.
If you live in a colder climate and think your English Bulldog will be a great cross country ski buddy, or that they would just love to sit outside and watch you do curling, (do people actually do curling?) Then, be prepared to keep your bully dressed warmly and have warm water for them to drink, as they will get colder faster than the typical dog due to their short noses which causes them to breathe in more cold air (longer nosed dogs heat the air more before it reaches the lungs).

English Bulldogs are an indoor pet. They of course need to spend time outside and many may love a frolic in your yard, but you cannot keep an English Bulldog exclusively outdoors, or even leave them out for long periods of time outdoors, especially if you live in an extreme climate.
However, if you live in a ridiculously hot place (we’re looking at you, Arizonians) but happen to have the modern-day miracle known as “air-conditioning”, an English Bulldog could be a great pet for you! Just keep in mind that they will not be able to stay out in the heat for very long periods of time. A quick trip out to potty and then right back in is usually just what an English Bulldog wants anyways. (they are smart, they like the ac…especially if you have floor vents for them to lay on!)
